Wow! This is not a new idea, but, it certainly is a new approach and explanation of why it is worth doing.

This is a worthwhile cause, to help restore trust in government by giving the keys to public officials back to the voters.

Thank you all for the great words and encouragement. We have a small volunteer staff now and are busy working in the background getting organized and setting out tactics and strategy. Give us a week or so to finish up, and then look for a lot to start happening very quickly.

We will post what is happening starting the first week in November.

If enough irresponsible/unaccountable office holders (i.e. the many with the Political Class mentality) are ousted, them and the rest lucky enough to retain their seats will start to get the message, and only then, will they stop wastin' our time (and tax dollars, and lives (e.g. votin' on pork-barrel, graft, etc., instead of body armour, armour for Humvees, and Bradley's, etc.; there are too many examples to list; just see cagw.org for thousands of examples)), and only then, start being responsible and accountable. Heck, they might even develop some peer-pressure to start being responsible and accountable. Especially if one of them is the cause of all of them to get ousted over and over.
And we should also give them a short list of tasks to do to prove it, a list of must-haves that are no-brainer, non-contentious, unarguably the
right thing to do.

For example, how about a new rule/law/amendment:

ONE PURPOSE PER BILL

I'm sick of these 10,000 page bills with hundreds of unrelated items and pork-barrel, graft, pay-offs, waste, and uncessary spending.

How about BILLs that can have multiple items, but ONLY one PURPOSE .

That's the only way we'll be able to know why anyone voted for/against a BILL.

Simplification and Transparency is the key, after we (The People) get their attention, and restore a balance of power that is supposed to be a Government OF / BY / FOR The People.

It's time to lead folks. Let's get out in front of this and bring the government back where it belongs: To the people.

My Dad has been voting this way for years. His logic being that if they are doing their job well enough other people will vote the incumbant back in, if not then others will help vote them out.

I'm glad VOID has the support of your family and grateful we have conscientious people like your son serving to protect this nation!

I have been pushing, locally in Mesa, Az for support of the requirement of any political candidate running for the first time or for re-election to disclose all contributions made to them, financial or otherwise, to themselves of their relatives or to any entity they share an interest in. This info should be made public as a matter of fact and not have to be dug up by a concerned citizen or journalist or foe. I also would like to be completely rid of lobbyists, PAC's, etc..(call me Ross, if ya want). I would presume that based on the wisdom so far displayed in your associated blogs, for the most part, that my sentiments go without further elaboration. Having said that, can I help in voiding those who deserve it?

Yes, you can help in any of a number of ways. The most important thing we need this minute are folks to spread the word about VOIDnow.org.

If you could, over the next few days, find 3 or 4 poliitical blogs who are discussing how to improve the system, and put in a plug for what we are about and a link to our website, http://voidnow.org, then come back here and leave the names of the blogs that you posted on, so we can begin to track which ones are producing the most traffic, that would be a tremendous help.

And, should you wish to become even more hands on than that, consider joining our volunteer staff at this link. We only ask for a minimum of one to two hours a week, doing a myriad of things from record keeping, to blogging, information development to recruiting new members from the interent.

Then of course, we can always use donors of the $20 to Bill Gates variety, to help us spread the word. Speech may be free, but printing, phones and media aren't. Volunteers who donate their time though, are more valuable to us right now than donations of money.

In 2006, with the exception of office holders who are members of the Green Party, and especially in AD 42 in Colorado where I will be running against the incumbent Dem, I support your plan. In 2008, if I win, then I hope my record in office will be such that I would be an exception to it.
