Washington must monitor its potentially unethical activity
Revelations on the use of the Patriot Act by the federal government include spying on many American citizens and tracking them with cell phones, without the issuing of search warrants. Federal intelligence personnel have conducted domestic spying on at least hundreds of their fellow Americans, in the interest of detecting potential terrorism.
Since the inception of the Patriot Act a couple of years ago, when there was a heightened sense of danger after the terrible September 11, 2001 attacks on us, the Bush Administration has not eased up arguing for domestic spying capabilities without a search warrant. In fact, Congress was recently just short of legislating the Act into permanent effect.
The American people are divided on domestic spying, as they are
on other controversial issues. Let it not, however, divert Washington from detecting and punishing its own unpatriotic activity, of attending to high-dollar lobbying by foreign countries, to high-dollar lobbying by American-based international corporations, and to high-dollar lobbying by a large portion of former Congressmen and their former congressional staff.
VOID was founded by David Remer, and is now supported by him and many staff and volunteers, in order to bring more responsibility and accountability to our representatives in our nation's capital. Let us remind our constituents this upcoming election year that we, the people, will vote in their challengers so that their careers are not systemized to be permanent, but are at the disposal of the people!
