Vast sums of money are scheduled to be spent on maintaining America's entire giant arsenal of strategic nuclear weapons. Vaster sums will go to the development of new weapons systems like the F-22 Raptor, the DD(X) Destroyer, and the Virginia-class of submarines. Our present capabilities for post-conflict reconstruction and peacekeeping missions remain extremely limited, however.
Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned us about the emerging "military-industrial" complex after World War II. His warnings have come to reality, and the current close ties between the U.S. defense industry and both the Democratic and the Republican parties have only strengthened after the end of the Cold War.
I don't see any positive moves toward more timely military budgeting with the current administration and congress. It is time that we, the people voted into office challengers; public servants who have the security of our nation in timely perspective during this different and dangerous War on terror.

It's not the military's job to rebuild or keep the peace. Their job is to defend this counrty. And in time of war to destroy things and kill.
While I agree that not all weapons that the Military wants are need, there is a need to keep our weapons system second to none.
What I find interesting is that while this administration is screaming about other countries having nucular weapons, it see nothing wrong with the upgrading of ours.
