House Resolution 4694
On Feb. 1, 2006, U.S. Representative David Obey (D-WI) introduced House Resolution 4694, the so-called Let the People Decide Clean Campaign Act. The bill pretends to be a campaign-finance reform plan. If passed, the measure would, among other things, forbid any congressional candidate from taking individuals' contributions and mandate that US Treasury funds be made available to House candidates from the "two major parties."
That's right, if passed, the legislation effectively would shut down those interested in running for office from the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, the Reform Party. In addition to Wisconsin's Obey, Reps. Rosa DeLauro (CT), Barney Frank and James McGovern (MA), Henry Waxman and Bob Filner (CA), Steve Israel (NY) and Tim Ryan (Ohio) have signed on as co-sponsors. Contact your Representatives via the Congressional Switchboard, 202-224-3121, and tell them in
the strongest terms possible to vote NO on this unAmerican measure. And if your public officeholder is one of the Egregious Eight, let them know that they are hurting, not helping, their constituents by supporting such petty, anti-democratic legislation.
"The Democrats behind this bill have as little regard for democracy and open elections as Republicans who have use altered congressional district lines and other methods to fix elections," said D.C. Statehood Green Party activist T.E. Smith. "Hiding this stratagem in a bill for public financing of campaigns makes it doubly shameful." People, we must vote out all irresponsible incumbents in Washington, to counter their arrogance. This so called democracy in the United States of America is sometimes more like monarchism, when it comes to electoral choice on the ballot on general election day!

Yuck! I know Obey isn't my Congressional Representative, but it's still embarrassing that we're both Wisconsinites! This is outrageous!

These further obstructions to 3rd parties and independents from access to getting on election balots is all the more reason to start voting out all irresponsible incumbents.
Now, how long would that list be?
Perhaps we should work on the smaller list first ?

There aint no smaller list d.a.n. That's the problem, none of them deserve to stay in office.
The attempt to pass a bill like this tells me that maybe the folks up there in DC are getting worried that their cu$hy jobs just might be threatened.

BTW Stephenie,
You have my deepest condolances have to say your from the same state as Obey.
Is that his real name or did he take it when he decided to obey the whims of Special Intrest?

This is an outrageous bill! The exact opposite should be the case. If government seats are going to be bought, they should be bought twenty bucks at a time by individuals, not by big businesses or corrupt political parties.
