Border Security
What do you think? Will sending 6000 national guard to our Southern Border to provide administrative and logistical support to the Border Patrol really secure that
border?
Will it make a dent in illegal immigration?
Will Congress' foot the bill for Bush's plan or will they see it as a waste of tax dollars?

So far, I'm not impressed. A look at the proposed measure shows just how much Bush wants to tie the hands of our soldiers, which I think is a bad move altogether. If he was serious, I'd support him. But, Bush hardly seems serious. However, I suspect the legislature will go along with him and give him the money--they don't seem to have a problem spending money pointelessly, after all.

6000 National Guard that can not interdict is a joke, when 6500 illegal aliens are crossing the Arizona border daily.
I would not bother to try to forcibly deport illegal aliens, unless they perpetrate other crimes.
The recommended solution would be to provide pre-paid transportation and $500 per person for all illegal aliens that volunteer to be deported.
Otherwise, they may find jobs hard to find, and welfare hard to collect, as laws are finally enforced to prevent abuse by illegal aliens.
Americans want secure borders and an end to abuse of our systems (welfare, education, Medicaid, law enforcement, prison, voting, insurance, Medicare, Social Security, unpaid taxes, E.R.s, hospitals, healthcare, food stamp, etc, etc, etc.)
But irresponsible politicians ignore the voters. But, voters keep re-electing those very same irresponsible incumbent politicians, and even send them billions in campaign dollars.
CONCLUSION: We sold ourselves out, and we are merely witnessing the transfer of assets. We are so lazy, we won't even make the effort to stop those that steal from us.

We still need to find a way to secure the actual border itself. Even with a way to make ends meet being scare for illegal aliens, terrorists will still use that wide-open border to cross into our country and do us harm.

Yes, a barrier ( i.e. some sort of fence/road) is needed.
The cost is not that much.
Especially if you consider the losses of something similar to 9/11.
The only reason we have not been attacked again is because terrorists don't have WMD yet.
When they do, there is nothing to stop them. They can stroll right across our borders anytime they feel like it.

What a leader -he sends our troops to fight in a war on terror -then when they do their jobs to well,he puts them in prison for protecting themselves. Then he tells us he wants to keep us safe, by keeping our borders wide open for another attack. Plus he wants wire taps, because he dosent want to protect our borders to begain with and because he has no idea who the hell is in our country!

Amnesty vs. Immigration?
We wouldn't have any problems with undocumented workers if employers would follow the laws that are already on the books. All prospective employees must provide two forms of identification (usually a drivers license or some other kind of picture ID) and that all important Social Security card. Employers are required to fill out and keep an I-9 form which documents what forms of ID were presented when that person was hired. When this same company has to make their quarterly report, they use these Social Security numbers to identify each employee. When fake Social Security numbers hit the IRS computer, that machine throws a hissy fit, and kicks the information back to the employer to be corrected. Everyone is entitled to make a mistake...sometimes more than a few even, but once it is obvious that these companies are hiring undocumented workers, they should have to pay hefty fines. There is no way to get around hiring someone for cold hard CASH, but if you want to abide by the LAW, once you have paid anyone over $600 in one year, you are required to provide them with an IRS-1099 earnings statement at the end of that year. Even that can be scrutinized by the government because the employer is going to want to use these 1099s to offset his own IRS taxes that have to be paid. If any individual tries to report....say...5 to 10 employees with 1099s that indicate they worked for him for quite some time, the employer should also be fined. He should have set himself up with the government to be an honest employer who participates in the Social Security, IRS withholding, and Medicare programs. The problem here is the employer does not want to match the 7.65% that is being taken out of an employees pay for these programs.
You can build the highest wall across the Texas-Mexico border you want. You can take the Texas Rangers and the Texas National Guard off their regular duties to patrol this barrier, and it still will not slow down the steady stream of undocumented workers coming into Texas. Washington would rather use the usual smoke and mirror tricks to take your attention off the obvious. We need to hold our EMPLOYERS responsible for hiring illegal workers-not the illegal workers for coming here trying to make a buck.

I date myself as being a "baby boomer" when I say I have enjoyed
George Carlin ever since he was the "Hippy Dippy Weatherman". In the
later years of his career he has used satire in ingenious ways to
answer some of the problems of the day. In one of his recent comedy
routines, he seems to have solved our need for oil, the immigration
problem, and the war in Iraq.
George Carlin's Solution:
Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use. The best way to stop
using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants! That
would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas
would come down. Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the
border. When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border,
hand him a gun, canteen, rifle and some ammo and ship him to Iraq.
Tell him if he wants to come to America then he must serve a tour in
the military. Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him
on it. After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since
he defended this country. He will also be registered to be taxed and
be a legal patriot. This option will probably deter illegal
immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq, and the
aliens trying to make a better life for themselves. If they refuse
to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or
ammo. Problem solved.
Ya gotta love a guy who can come up with this kind of stuff!
