GOP Seats threatened in Ohio - Tenn.
Ohio incumbent Senator Mike DeWine's (R) poll numbers show his seat to be in potential jeopardy against Democratic challenger Sherrod Brown. This is according to a new Mason Dixon poll. While the poll shows them virtually tied, the unfavorable numbers for DeWine are souring against Brown's.
The key to this race is likely to be the votes of independents. In this poll, Brown leads among independents by a 52 percent to 33 percent margin.
A similar result is showing up in Tennessee where Democrat Harold Ford,
Jr. and Republican Bob Corker are in a virtual tie for Republican Bill Frist's seat. This same MSNBC article reports:
Ford is supported by 43 percent of likely voters and Corker is supported by 42 percent. Only 1 percent support a third party candidate and 14 percent are undecided. The poll was conducted for the Memphis Commercial Appeal and the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Ford is viewed favorably by more Tennessee voters, 44 percent, than is Corker, 38 percent, and less unfavorably, 30 percent to Corker's 35 percent.
